Shop of the Moment: Kollektiv Turmstrasse On Virtual Venues

Shop of the Moment: Kollektiv Turmstrasse On Virtual Venues

Kollektiv Turmstrasse – that’s Nico and Christian – formed in 1999 when they were roommates in Wismar, Germany. Quickly they fell in with the most famous producers and DJs in the field of minimal techno. Many years have passed since then – and Kollektiv Turmstrasse have evolved musically and conceptually. Their new album UNITY OF OPPOSITES is a response to digitalization, globalization and the pandemic. Instead of an ordinary streaming session, the duo celebrated the album premiere together with their fans in a digital space. We asked Nico about the album, digital merch dealers and the new Kollektiv Turmstrasse logo…

UNITY OF OPPOSITES – more than an album

Hello Nico! Wow, we are really happy to interview you. Some of your fans work at Spreadshop… Generally, how do you connect with fans?

Hello to you and all readers! We are very happy that you are interested in what we do! To answer your question: I hope, of course, that we inspire fans mainly with the music. ? Otherwise, social media is the medium to reach fans directly.

We’ve been lucky enough to have a good fan base for years that always support us, and that’s great of course. But we haven’t really dared to put ourselves on display for a long time. That’s not our attitude at all, but in the meantime we also realize how much fun it is to have a direct exchange with fans. With our new album concept, we hope to make social media even more interactive, especially in these difficult times.

Your last album (‘Rebellion of the Dreamers’) was released 11 years ago, after that you mainly appeared with the ‘Sorry I Am Late’ EP and numerous remixes. The new album ‘UNITY OF OPPOSITES’ is much more than an album. Can you tell us about that?

For a long time, we had the feeling that one album would not be enough. The idea for an album was there for a while and there were also sketches, but there was never the right time. It sounds stupid, but for us an album is really something special. Maybe that’s why it took 10 years.

We already had some ideas that went into the virtual realm, and we had also already talked to my good friend Alex from the agency Demodern about some concepts. Then in the winter of 2019, he told me they were working on a virtual stage and asked if I would like to take a look at it.

UNITY OF OPPOSITES is the result of many hours of work, a lot of love for our project and created with UNITY in mind. It would go a bit beyond the scope of this article to talk about how it will go on and what will happen. I can only say this much: We are only at the beginning. Both musically and with the virtual stage.

UNITY OF OPPOSITES is therefore first of all a concept album. The stage, the show, the music are together in the album. I would like to emphasize that everything is connected here and therefore there is no release date for the album itself.  But one of the basic ideas was of course to bring people together in the time of COVID and to be able to play live.

So, UNITY OF OPPOSITES is something like a digital club? Fans can buy a ticket to a digital party, and then dance on site with their own character. How exactly does something like that work and how did your first digital gig go?

It’s not necessarily a club, it lacks a roof ? That was also important to us: we’re outside, not inside. And how that works, I can only explain to you amateurly, because there’s a lot of technology and know-how behind it. In the current online issue of Page Magazine, there’s a great background report on the technology that Demodern has built into it.

Our first event was really incredible! I can’t tell you how great it was to play in front of a real audience again. It was very exciting and I’m very proud of the team and that everything went so great. The feedback from the fans was overwhelming. I don’t think anyone really expected it to be fun, and most people probably just wanted to hear the music. But in hindsight, the music just seemed to get casual feedback ?.

I’m looking forward to the next shows, because each show will also bring new changes. As always, it remains exciting with Kollektiv Turmstrasse.

Merch from the digital dealer

Glad to hear your show went so well! We heard that there was also a (digital) merch dealer on site. What did they have on offer?

Of course, the catalog from our Spreadshop ?. Our merch dealer has the best stuff, that much is clear.

Why merch? Was that your idea or did it come more from the fans?

I’m a big merch fan myself, but we’ve actually struggled with it the last few years and we wanted to fundamentally change that. We are just starting here as well, and we are currently working on many new motifs and designs that are wonderfully easy to add to our Shop.

How did you come to Spreadshop and what do you like about it?

I can start right away. Spreadshop offers us an uncomplicated way of dealing with merch, from designing the products to having our own Shop, it’s a piece of cake. We don’t have to worry about anything, you take care of shipping, complaints and support. It doesn’t get any better than that!

It should also be said that you can set your own prices. For example, we decided to offer lower prices to our fans. This makes us happy and also makes our fans happy.

We like your Shop a lot! Can you tell us something about the setup, product selection and designs? You also redesigned your logo, right?

Thank you very much, we’re happy to hear that. Alisha, our creative fairy, also put a lot of effort into the design – not just with the Spreadshop. Kollektiv Turmstrasse, as you’ve already noticed, is completely redesigning itself right now.

But that’s the beauty of Spreadshop, we can customize our Shop layout to our liking, whether it’s image or color. The product selection for the merchandise is very large and we had to be careful not to offer everything available.

As I mentioned before, I love merch. But it was important to us in the product selection that, for example, we could also offer great products to our female fans. With the designs, the colors of the fabrics were important to us naturally, it should all fit into the new design of Kollektiv Turmstrasse. And then it’s as simple as deselecting the colors you don’t want to offer. Done! Such small features, which have been wonderfully integrated into the Spreadshop, make offering merch easy and above all, instantly possible.

Pandemic streaming solutions

Awesome! We’re glad Spreadshop is working out for you. So, you’ve streamed on Twitch, YouTube and now the live digital show. Nico in particular is very fond of the streaming world. Where does this desire to stream come from? Does it also have something to do with the circumstances caused by the pandemic?

Christian and I were (and are) nerds, we love technology, we love the Internet, streams and YouTube are everyday media for us. We want to use this to have direct contact and exchange with our fans here as well. That works well and is very popular, especially with younger audiences.

The fact that I’m more present right now has to do with the current circumstances, though.

Christian decided during the pandemic that in the future he’ll work in the background. We always had different strengths and in times with an uncertain future such decisions are important for inner well-being. Christian and I are still Kollektiv Turmstrasse, but unfortunately people have to get used to the fact that the handsome one from the band is no longer on stage 😉

Oh, we think you are both very pretty! 😉 Do you have any tips for musicians and producers who are struggling with the never-ending pandemic and haven’t had any gigs for a long time?

I think the number one place to go [in Germany] at the moment should be NEUSTARTKULTUR. There are some support programs for musicians and artists. Unfortunately, we ourselves were not lucky, because we were already too far along in the development of our project. So, you should submit applications already in the conception phase. But a lot is being done in this area. Unfortunately, there are many bureaucratic hurdles to overcome. It’s not quick help. We very much hope that with the vaccinations some normality will soon return for everyone, but for many of my guild it will then be too late. And that is very sad.

Yes, we think that’s very sad, too. We hope that with Spreadshop we can still make a small contribution to ensuring that the voices of musicians and artists are heard. Thanks for the interview, Nico!

Thank you! If you want to buy a ticket for our virtual live show to support us, you can find out more on Instagram. Otherwise, you can find out more via our website or the link: https://unityofopposites.world/.

How to Advertise on Instagram: A 5-Step Guide to Using Instagram Ads

How to Advertise on Instagram

Want to advertise your shop on Instagram but don’t know where to begin? It can be overwhelming and stressful putting money into using Instagram ads you’re not sure how to effectively use. How much do you spend? What should you budget? What’s the most effective way to reach an audience? See, I’m getting overwhelmed just thinking about it.

Setting up Instagram ads and tracking their progress is a step-by-step process that’s easy to manage if you take the time to look into your options. The following is a road map that will guide you through using Instagram ads on your journey, with some tips and tricks added in to help you increase sales and engagement.

Identify Attractive Content for Your Audience

Identify Attractive Content for Your Audience

And I don’t mean content that necessarily looks pretty. Attractive content is what appeals to people and then provokes interactions and shares.

Likes and comments popping into your notifications are those little reminders for us of what posts people are connecting with. If you want more concrete data and proven statistics to help you build your Instagram ads – use Instagram Insights.

They’re accessible for those with business accounts, or users who have their Facebook page connected to their Instagram account (you’ll need this when creating your ad, too). Instagram Insights can be accessed when you click the three-lined menu at the top right of your profile page.

There, you’ll find all sorts of data that you can use to determine what kinds of ads you want to make and the people you want to attract.

View insights from the last 7 days, 30 days, to see your reach and interactions. A post may have had a wide reach, but not have gotten a lot of engagement. Maybe that just means it was shared more. Browse the areas you think will best benefit you to determine some kind of strategy so you don’t go into creating an ad blindly.

You can also see how many followers you’ve gained or lost (might be a blow to your ego), and what days are optimal for engagement.

You may have already known this information to some degree, but seeing it laid out in this way just further solidifies what your strengths and weaknesses are, and helps you achieve the goals from your Instagram ad/s.

How to Start an Ad

How to Start an Ad

It’s strange that to start an Instagram ad, you need to go through another social network. Facebook Ads Manager is the place where all your ads for Facebook and Instagram live. So, if you don’t have a Facebook – you better set one up and connect it to Instagram like I previously mentioned.

The first thing you need to do is choose a marketing objective from three available categories: Awareness, Consideration, and Conversion.

Awareness helps get your brand name out there or expand your reach. Consideration is aimed at upping traffic or engagement for your content. And conversion is designed to push store traffic or sales.

Once you choose what marketing objective you want to measure, you can pick your campaign name. Name it something fun and catchy so you look forward to checking in on your progress. You don’t wanna get too corporate with this.

After naming your campaign, you need to choose a budget and set a bid for how much Instagram will charge per click on the ads or views of your content. The more money you spend, the more eyes will likely be on your ad. I would recommend starting with a reasonable budget using the lower cost options so you can build up from there.

You can also specify more information about demographics you want to target with this ad by selecting interests, job titles, age, gender, etc. Have it limited to a particular area like Pittsburgh where you think you can do more business with your yinz-themed shop, or expand it to the whole United States and other countries.

With your budget, you can have your ad be shown on certain days of the week, and determine how much you want to spend per day/week.

Next, you’ll be able to preview what your ads will look like on Instagram. You can even design the text, captions, and images you want to include in this ad with a few simple touches before it goes live!

But how do you choose what ad to go with?

Photo Ads

Photo Ads

Photo ads have been a staple of Instagram since its launch, and have become increasingly more prominent on users’ feeds of recent. I get through about 5 posts on my feed before I see an ad, and so on, and so on. This is the standard type of ad – and maybe the first one you think of – for Instagram.

Sizes include the traditional square style, vertical, or landscape.

They’re the easiest to produce, but aren’t necessarily equipped for longtime brand awareness. Think of flash-style images or themes that will catch a users’ eye as they are scrolling. Use them to promote a sale, event, or other newsworthy aspects of your shop.

If you want to showcase multiple people wearing your merch or a series with multiple aspects of key information – carousel ads are the way to go.

They can be up to three images, which gives you more options as far as content. Show 3 photos for one of your tees and highlight different details: the logo, the material it’s printed on, the meaning behind the design. Get creative with how you market your items and your brand.

This type of ad will also give your followers the ability to slide through as they choose, and provides you with an opportunity to display what’s in store for them if they follow through. It also has the added bonus of being able to link relevant products or pages.

Another photo option that is especially worth looking into are Instagram Story ads. They’re convenient for users who don’t have time to scroll their feed. And they’re worth the investment.

According to a study done by Hootsuite, 58% of users said they were more interested in buying a product or looking into a brand just from Instagram Story ads.

Video Ads

Video Ads

Video ads can be much more engaging than just using an image. They have been shown in many cases to outperform photo ads because they offer another dimension of information that draws viewers’ attention and holds their interest longer than pictures.

You need to make those first seconds count, though.

Don’t start with a slow transition. Capture users’ attention with a bold series of images or footage that has a lot of movement. If people know it’s a video, they might be inclined to hang around longer and see what you’re all about.

An important thing you should do when setting up your video ad is make sure the video itself doesn’t take up too much space on screen — as videos start playing automatically when users scroll past them, there’s often not enough room for other content like text captions that can help your ad stand out as users scroll furiously down their feed.

And since Instagram audio is muted by default, text is a great way to communicate what you want to get out there: SALE 50% OFF! EXCLUSIVE OFFER! NEW MERCHANDISE! Things of that nature

You can also use video ads in Instagram Stories, they just require a different format, of course.

A simple Google search will provide you with all the needed measurements for the different Instagram ads. Image size for a traditional square Instagram ad is 1080 x 1080 pixels, a landscape video ad has a minimum resolution of 600 x 315 pixels, and an Instagram Story ad dimensions are 1080 x 1920 pixels.

You don’t want to have your ad turn out blurry or appear cropped after spending so much time on it, so keep these measurements on hand.

Measuring Growth

Measuring Growth

So, what do you do after you create your ad? After being so involved in the process, it’s important to take a step back and just watch as your first results trickle in.

After you’ve chilled out for an appropriate amount of time, the first thing you should do is take a look at your analytics. Instagram will provide you with information on how long people watched your ad if it’s a video, and what type of devices they were using. It’ll also let you know if someone has tapped out or clicked off of one of your ads before it finished playing (this is called a “skip”).

When it comes to measuring growth for photo ads, try looking at likes per post or comments per photo, as well as open rates which will tell you how many people have seen but not necessarily interacted with that content so far.

I know this is a lot of information to take in, but hopefully it outlined Instagram ads for you – and is something you can refer back to – when looking for the best insights to make your ads (and your business) a success!

The Ultimate Guide To Selling Merch On Facebook

The Ultimate Guide to Selling Merch on Facebook

When Facebook started, it was a place for family and friends to connect, but it has evolved since then to be so much more. In addition to a social platform, it is a leading website used for eCommerce for small businesses to network and sell their products to a wider audience such as selling merch on Facebook.

The first step to getting started is to set up a Facebook Business page, and then you can get started selling your items to the public. Only physical items can be sold on Facebook Marketplace, so keep that in mind.

While Facebook is a great way to sell your inventory, it can also be overwhelming when you are just getting started with Facebook merch and Spreadshop. Luckily, there is a lot of information to get you started, and we have compiled our favorite tips and tricks to narrow it down to you and make it simple. Here is what you should know for selling merch on Facebook.

Facebook Marketplace, Shops, and Buy & Sell Groups

Facebook Marketplace, Facebook Shops, and Facebook Buy & Sell Groups

First of all, there are a lot of different ways to sell on Facebook, so it is important that you understand the many differences between all the different avenues you can take. The different ways to sell will be better for different people, so only you can know what is going to work well for your situation.

Facebook Marketplace

Facebook Marketplace sounds like it is an eCommerce platform, but you can’t actually sell products there. You can list your own products or search for products you want, but then you have to get in contact with the owner in order to arrange for payment. There are no tools for sellers to help process payment, tax calculation, or shopping carts.

Because it is more of a way to post personal ads to local people, it is not aimed at supporting business owners, just regular users who sell things occasionally. If you are trying to sell things regularly as a part of your business, then this is not going to be a great tool for you to use.

Facebook Shop

A better approach for small business owners is to create a Facebook Shop. It has the capability to be much more like an online store with checkout so customers can buy things right from your store. The only catches are that transactions are only available in the US, and there is a selling fee of either 5% per shipment or $0.40 for shipments $8 or less.

You do also have the option to create a Facebook Shop but redirect customers to a different website to make a purchase. This can save you money in fees and makes sense if you live outside the US. You can link a button to an Amazon shop, eCommerce site, Shopify store, or any other website used to sell your products.

Facebook Buy and Sell Groups

Facebook buy and sell groups are another way you can sell things online. It is different than the other avenues in several ways. For starters, it is not yours, and you rent it for the sake of advertising. You also have to manage all the listings in different buy and sell groups separately, even if it is for the same product. While this does have some benefits, it can also be time-consuming.

Research First

Research First

Before you jump into selling merch on Facebook, you want to do enough research to know you are making the right decision for the path you are taking. While you can change your tactics and make adjustments later, you don’t want to have to start all over and have wasted a lot of valuable time. It is much better to do a little research before you start because it will save you a lot of time later down the road.

In addition to knowing how you want to sell merch on Facebook, you also want to do research into the market for the product you are going to be selling and your target demographic. When you are researching the market, you should see if there is a high demand for the product you will be selling. You can also do research into how many other people are offering something similar and if you can offer anything different than them.

Making sure that there is sufficient demand for your product or that you can offer something that not many others are offering will help you avoid having a lot of unsold inventory and losing money in your business. If there are other people offering similar products in the market, then you need to make sure that there is sufficient demand to include you as well.

During this research phase, you can also gather information about your target demographic. Understanding a lot about your target audience, who they are, what they want, the struggles they are facing, and how you can help them is crucial to later develop a marketing strategy.

In addition to researching your target customers, you should research your competitors. You can look at how they price their products so you know how you can stay competitive when your products go to market. If you can’t offer a lower price than your competitors, then you should be able to explain to the consumers why your products are worth more.

Photo Use

Photo Use

Selling online will not be successful without quality pictures of your products. Consumers do not want to buy things online if they don’t feel confident that they know what is going to show up. Because they are not in a physical store able to see and touch the item, this means you should invest some money in pictures that will help you sell your products.

Your pictures should be professional-looking and high quality, so the product is shown clearly, and your business gives off the air of a professional company with high standards. The pictures should catch the customers’ eyes, but also give them a lot of information about your product.

You should include several pictures for each product from different angles so the customer can see all aspects of the product. There should be pictures that show all the colors, features, and size variations you offer. Showing the product in action is also a great idea if you can do it. The more your customer knows about each product they might buy, the more likely they are to make a purchase and be happy with that purchase.

One thing to keep in mind when posting pictures to Facebook Marketplace is that if you upload regularly sized images, Facebook may crop them for a preview, and no one will be able to tell what it is. You can avoid this by uploading square pictures.

Creating the Listing

Creating the Listing

When you are ready to start listing your merch to sell on Facebook, you will need to craft a listing that will appeal to your customers. Most people don’t go directly to your page to browse your items. Because they are looking for a particular item, they will search for that item and then look through all the vendors selling it to choose one.

If your product doesn’t show up near the top of the results, then you are not going to attract many customers. Optimizing your listings using SEO is how you rank higher in search results. In order to optimize each listing you create, you need to know what keywords potential customers are using most often when they search and then use those keywords in your titles and descriptions of items. You can use online tools to research keywords or look at how successful sellers are marketing their products.

Customer Service

Customer Service

Often, customers will reach out to a business through messenger on Facebook to ask questions before making a purchase. Because this is a live chat feature, the more responsive you can be to customers, the more sales you will make.

If you respond quickly to potential customers and answer their questions, then they are more likely to buy from you. This lets customers know that you care about them, you care about your business, and if there is an issue that you will resolve it quickly. On the flip side, if you don’t respond quickly, the person will likely go somewhere else.

Because you are a small business, you may not have the option to have 24/7 customer service available. That is okay. Respond as quickly as you can by prioritizing customer service during your day. You can also indicate on your page your customer service hours so customers will have accurate expectations when they send you a message.

Return Policies

Return Policies

No matter how high-quality yoru products are, there will be customers who need to return items for various reasons. Facebook lets individuals set their own return policies, so you have to make the call on when and how you accept returns. This information should be clearly stated on your Facebook page so customers can find it easily.

Making sure that they know the return policy will help you because you will have fewer customer service issues, and it will also make buying from your store a more enjoyable experience for your customers. Unhappy customers who aren’t aware of the return policy will not buy from you again and may also tell other people about their negative experiences as well. Mitigating these problems through good communication is essential.

Using Groups

Using Groups

Because of the social nature of Facebook, it is important that you engage with the community to be successful. There are numerous groups and pages on Facebook that are specially designed for people who are buying and selling items. Posting your page in a large number of groups will increase the reach of your marketing strategy while not costing you any of your budgets.

Using these groups to engage with more subsections of people will help you establish yourself as an authority and increase brand awareness for your business. Even though you may not be selling directly in these groups, it will help to boost your good reputation and drive more traffic to your store.

This is effective, but it can also be a little bit time-consuming. One way you can make sure that you are using your time wisely is to do research about your target audience and then pick groups that will allow you to connect to them.

One thing to keep in mind is to post useful information, but don’t come across as spam. If you post things a lot that is all about your own business and don’t offer any value to your customers, then people are not going to take you seriously. You want to promote your business through your ability to help the people you want as customers.

Cross-Selling

Cross-Selling

While Facebook Marketplace is a great way to sell your items, you don’t want to rely heavily on one platform. Because Facebook owns Instagram, it is easy to cross-post and sell your items in both places. Diversifying your marketing strategy allows you to reach more people, but it also acts as a safety net if one platform has a glitch.

In addition to reaching more people, you can also connect with the same people on different platforms. Doing this increases your brand visibility and establishes you as a company people can trust. Other eCommerce platforms may also partner with Facebook, which will allow you to connect more accounts seamlessly.

Invest in Yourself

Invest in Yourself

It can be hard to be noticed online because of the vast number of pages available for users to browse. If you use high-quality images and optimize and have competitive prices but still aren’t seeing very much traffic to your page, then you may need to take a look at paid advertising.

This is easy to do through Facebook. When you list an item on Marketplace, you can click on “boost listing.” Doing this will turn your post into a Facebook ad. You can customize who Facebook will show the ad to, how much money you want to spend on it, and how long you want the ad to be visible. This little boost may help you get started being more visible online and get started selling merch on Facebook.

“I’m a big fan of working with companies that I like the people behind them… And I can tell you that Spreadshop has been amazingly amazing to work with. So, I can – without a shadow of a doubt – recommend them to you. – Jessica Stansberry”
